Day 6 – Arrival in Scotland

HBlimey that was a long old trek today! Shap in Cumbria through Carlisle and on to Gretna through the Scottish Borders in to Innerleithen.

We started out with a 40 mile stint from Shap to Gretna – I forget why it was so long – but we made good time and arrived at the border for midday via an altercation with an idiot Telfords Coaches driver who decided to cut across us.

The journey itself was pretty up and down, it was when we started to get deeper into Scotland that the fun began.

It started ominously enough with a fair amount of uphill across farm tracks – my personally loathed combination because it usually means the roads are awful – but thanks to the Strategic Forestry Commission and their transport improvement fund we wee soon treated to some 20 odd miles of gloriously smooth down hill eventually arriving in Innerleithen for a slap up steak dinner!
